Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post: Albuquerque, NM
Year:
Enchanted Trails began as a stop for motorists traveling Route 66. Visiting the original 1940s trading post is like stepping back in time. Vintage trailers ring a green; pink flamingo lawn ornaments stand guard as you walk from trailer to trailer. The 1959 Spartan was the product of The Spartan Aircraft Company based in Tulsa, OK. While “aircraft” is in the name, the company roots were not in the air, but in the ground. It was an offshoot of the Skelly Oil Company founded by William G. Skelly, “Mr. Tulsa.” Skelly had a great interest in aeronautics and sponsored activities in aviation. These pursuits grew and the company was sold to another oil tycoon (oligarch) J. Paul Getty. After WWII wartime production ended, Getty needed to think of a new direction to take the company. With all the soldiers returning home from the war, he thought the manufactured trailer home would be the perfect product and thus the spartan line of luxury manufactured trailers came to be.
